Alappuzha, Kerala: Causing panic and alarm, an Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker overturned on the national highway near Kottukulangara Masjid in Kayamkulam on Monday, January 13. According to the information from the ground, no casualties have been reported.
The tanker with an 18-tonne gas loaded in was on its way to the Kollam Parippally Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) plant from Mangalore when the accident occurred.
Emergency services were quickly deployed, and at least two units of Agni Raksha Sena from Kayamkulam and Civil Defense are camping at the spot. There are no leaks reported so far. The NH 66, on which the overturn happened, has temporarily been closed, and the gas from the tanker is being shifted safely.

In December last year, a massive explosion occurred on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway after a truck collided with an LPG tanker, killing several people and injuring many others. The accident had happened when the LPG tanker was taking a U-turn on the highway. The following explosion torched several other vehicles near a petrol pump, creating huge inferno and the casualties.
