
'No Other Land' Member, Activist Awdah Hathleen Killed By Israel
Awdah Hathleen, a Palestinian activist who was part of the crew on the Academy Award-winning documentary No Other Land, was shot dead by an Israeli settler on Monday. The 31-year-old English teacher was a member of the teaching staff at Al-Saray’a Secondary School in the Albadawiya-Albadawiya area of Masafer Yatta, in the southern West Bank of Hebron.
He was a father of three young children, the oldest of whom is 6 years old. And belonged to the Um Al-Khari Community in Masafer Yatta.

Awdah stood against oppression and struggled for justice for Palestine. The Palestinian activists also went to the US protesting against the land theft in the West Bank and the genocide unfolding in Gaza. However, his visa was revoked, followed by his detention and deportation.
Basel Adra, the Palestinian director of No Other Land, shared a photo of himself with Hathleen on X, writing, “My dear friend Awdah was slaughtered this evening. He was standing in front of the community center in his village when a settler fired a bullet that pierced his chest and took his life. This is how Israel erases us – one life at a time.”

Today, the apartheid court decided to release him to house arrest.

Basel Adra also shared a video on X showing the Israeli settler brandishing a gun and shooting him. The settler in the video posted by Abraham was identified as Yinon Levi, who was sanctioned by the US and European Union in 2024 for his violent attacks on Palestinians and their property. The Trump administration lifted the sanctions earlier this year. The Israeli settler had a history of violent attacks against Palestinians.

Awadh co-directed the Oscar-winning documentary and exposed forced displacement in Masafer Yatta. Even while he was shot dead by Yinon Levi, Awadh was filming the destruction caused by the bulldozer and armed settlers. He was shot in the chest while standing apart from the crowd, posing no threat.
