Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: An Abu Dhabi court recently ordered a man to pay a woman Dh48,700 that he obtained from a women and an additional Dh10,000 in compensation for falsely promising to marry, Gulf News reported.

Making the woman believe that he would marry her, the accused man allegedly obtained money from the woman over a period of time. The man allegedly received cash and bank transfers from the woman after telling her he would repay the money once his financial circumstances improved and his banking transactions were completed.

The victim had filed a civil case seeking Dh48,800, which she said represented the outstanding debt, and an additional demand for compensation of Dh20,000 for the material, moral and psychological damage.

The woman also sought late-payment interest of 5 per cent a year from the date the case was filed until full settlement, in addition to court costs and lawyers’ fees. After hearing the arguments, the court asked the man to pay Dh48,700, along with Dh10,000 in compensation to the woman.
