Kerala Rapper Vedan Booked For Sexual Assault Over Alleged False Promise Of Marriage
Kerala-based rapper and lyricist Hirandas Murali, widely known by his stage name Vedan, has been booked in a sexual assault case following a complaint filed by a young doctor, police confirmed on Thursday.
According to ANI, the woman alleged that Murali engaged in sexual relations with her multiple times between August 2021 and March 2023 under the false pretext of marriage
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) dealing with sexual assault. An investigation is currently underway, police sources added.

This is not the first time the rapper has faced such allegations. In 2021, multiple women had accused him of sexual misconduct, prompting Vedan to issue a public apology at the time, a gesture that drew mixed responses on social media. However, the current case marks a more serious legal development.
Vedan rose to prominence in Kerala’s cultural and political consciousness with his 2020 debut “Voice of the Voiceless”, a searing critique of caste oppression and state apathy.
He followed it up with “Bhoomi Njan Vazhunidam”, further cementing his reputation as a voice for the oppressed. In addition to his independent work, Vedan has also contributed lyrics and vocals to several Malayalam films, including the critically acclaimed Manjummel Boys (2024), Nayattu (2021), and KARAM (2023).

His politically charged Malayalam rap track “Bhoomi Njaan Vaazhunnidam” was recently included in the BA Malayalam Fourth Semester syllabus at Calicut University.
The song, rooted in the lived realities of Dalit and marginalised communities, now features in a comparative literature module alongside Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us”, aiming to explore music as a medium of protest across cultures.
