Chinese Production Model Is Coercive, Need A Democratic Alternative: Rahul Gandhi

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Chinese have shown that it is possible to produce effectively in a coercive environment and the challenge before the world is to provide an alternative vision where the production is undertaken in democratic conditions with political and economic freedom.

The Congress leader who is on a three nation European visit said the Chinese model restrict people’s freedom, but offer them prosperity without political freedom.

“And the challenge before us is… can we provide an alternative vision where we do production under democratic conditions with political and economic freedom?,” he asked while addressing the international media at the prestigious Brussels Press Club, Belgium, today.

“China is proposing a particular view or a vision of the planet. They are putting on the table the idea of belt and road. And one of the reasons they are able to do that is, because they have become a centre of global production,” the Congress leader said while adding that the world needs a vision for production in a democratic environment.

“And there is a lot of cooperation can happen between US, Europe and us. And that”s where our focus should go… how can we create an alternative to Chinese production model which is a coercive production model,” the Congress leader said.

Marking the start of his three nation European visit, Rahul Gandhi attended a round table conference with members of the European Parliament at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium on Thursday.

Human rights situation in Manipur was among several topics discussed the meeting, India Today reported by quoting sources. However, the Congress leader said the discussion was focused on topics such as geo-politics, climate change and trade relations.
