Indonesia: Massive Fire Breaks Out At Jakarta Building, Kills At Least 20; Several Trapped

Jakarta, Indonesia: A massive fire broke out in Indonesia’s Jakarta, killing at least 20 people and injuring several others on Tuesday. The fire engulfed the seven-story building, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky, triggering panic among locals and residents.

Though the authorities managed to extinguish the fire, there are several peoples still trapped and the rescue efforts are going on to evacuate the ​building.

Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro said that the fire occurred on the 1st floor and employees rushed to extinguish the blaze. According to Central Jakarta police chief Susatyo Purnomo Condro, the fire started on the first floor before spreading to upper levels. Many employees of Terra Drone Indonesia were on their lunch break when the blaze erupted, while others had stepped out of the office.

Firefighters were seen carrying body bags out of the building as they worked to bring people down from higher floors using portable ladders, as per the footages surfaced from the incident site.

The building which was affected by the fire houses Terra Drone Indonesia, which provides drones for aerial surveying across sectors from mining to agriculture. The firm is the Indonesian unit of Japan’s Terra Drone Corporation.
