Netizens School J.K. Rowling For Selective Activism On Iranian Issue And Silence On Palestine

The well-acclaimed author of the globally famous fiction ‘Harry Potter’, J. K. Rowling, has come in support of Iranian protesters on the streets demanding regime change. Notably, the recent protests in Iran, which began in December against high inflation and a worsening economy, have taken the form of a wave that has swept across the majority of Iran’s provinces.

Rowling has condemned those who have remained silent about the Iranians and have not spoken out yet. While writing on X, she said, “If you claim to support human rights yet can’t bring yourself to show solidarity with those fighting for their liberty in Iran, you’ve revealed yourself. You don’t give a damn about people being oppressed and brutalised so long as it’s being done by the enemies of your enemies.”

However, people did not leave behind to question her selective activism and biased feminism over the Iran Issue. While questioning her negligence for Palestinian human rights, one user said, “Yes, we should support the women of Iran who are deprived of universal human rights; however, your brand of selective feminism is not feminism. It’s cynical posturing to cover for the fact that you (and others) have abandoned the women and girls of Palestine/Gaza during an ongoing genocide; their universal human rights have been trampled on for decades. It’s a facet of privileged-white feminism that you choose to highlight the plight of women of colour when it won’t cost you a thing by way of book deals, adulation or status. Until you educate yourself about intersectionality – and walk the talk – you’re in no position to preach about “revealing yourself”.

Some condemned her for supporting America and Israel’s interests. One user wrote, “You’re just a shill for Jewish supremacy. This isn’t about freedom, or liberty, it’s about regime change for the benefit of Israel, and you’re happy to watch America go further into debt and lose additional lives for Netanyahu and Jewish supremacy.
