Trump Announces 25% Tariff Plus Penalty On India Starting From Aug 1
US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff and an additional penalty on India for buying military equipment and energy products from Russia. While announcing the tariff against India, the US President accuses India of continuing to trade with Russia along with China, while the world is working to stop the war.
Calling India’s tariffs one of the highest in the world, Trump said they are the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers.
Saying the recently announced sanctions as unfortunate, the BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal says, “Certainly, the Government of India will take cognisance of it. We have to wait and watch how the Government of India reacts to it. In my personal opinion, it is unfortunate.”
US and India are major trading partners. The raised tariffs on Indian exports of textiles, pharmaceuticals, steel, and software-related services make Indian goods more expensive and less competitive in the American market, potentially hurting Indian manufacturers, MSMEs, and job creation.
