Washington, D C, United States: US President Donald Trump is discussing options to acquire Greenland, and the president is planning military action if diplomacy fails, the White House said recently, reported BCC.

The statement from the US came hours after European leaders issued a joint statement rallying behind Denmark, which has been pushing back against Trump’s ambitions for the Arctic island.

The statement comes in the wake of the US military intervention in Venezuela, during which the US troops seized the country’s President, Nicolás Maduro, and took him to face charges in New York.

According to the US, Greenland — a semi-autonomous region of fellow Nato member Denmark – was a national security priority. Trump said that the US needed Greenland for security reasons over the weekend.
