NTA Starts UGC-NET June 2024 Session Registration, Exam To Be Held On June 16, 2024

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the registration process for the UGC-NET June 2024 session from today, April 20, 2024. The deadline to register for the exam is May 10, 2024, and the last date to submit the examination fee is May 12, 2024. Candidates can visit the NTA official website – ugcnet.nta.ac.in to learn more information about the exam and the detailed application process. Notably, this year the exam is going to be conducted on June 16, 2024.

The correction window will remain open for 3 days from May 13 to May 15, 2024. However city exam center and admit card downloading dates will be announced by the testing agency later.


The exam will have two papers- paper 1 based on research methodology and paper 2 based on subject-specific questions. The total exam duration will be 180 minutes (3 hours) with no breaks in between the papers.

The application fee for the unreserved category is Rs 1150, for EWS/OBC-NCL is Rs 600 and For SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender is Rs 325.

UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that with the UGC-NET June 2024 session, the candidates who are pursuing a four-year or 8 Semester Bachelor’s Degree Programme and are in their last semester or year may also apply for the UGC-NET.

“The candidates with a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree Programme are allowed to appear in a subject in which they want to pursue a Ph.D. irrespective of the discipline in which they have obtained the four-year bachelor’s degree,” Mr Kumar said.

The UGC NET exam, or the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, is a competitive examination conducted in India to determine eligibility for admissions to PhD programs and for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. It’s managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission.

The exam is typically held for subjects such as Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, and so forth.

As per the official release, the UGC-NET June 2024 exam will be conducted in 83 subjects in OMR (Pen and Paper mode)

The UGC NET exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) aimed at assessing candidates’ understanding of their respective subjects, general awareness, and research aptitude. Those who qualify can pursue teaching positions (Assistant Professorship) or research fellowships in Indian universities and colleges.
