Four-time BJD MP Baijayant Jay Panda On BJP Ticket This Time From Kendrapara

Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda got the BJP ticket to run the Lok Sabha election 2024 from Kendrapara constituency in Odisha. The date of voting for the Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency is June 1, 2024. Indian National Congress (INC) fielded Sidharth Swarup Das and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) nominated Anshuman Mohanty to run for the upcoming election in the constituency.

In the last general elections in 2019, BJD candidate Anubhav Mohanty won the Kendrapara parliament constituency seat defeating BJP candidate Baijayant Panda by securing 51% votes. At the same time, the BJP candidate secured 38% votes.

Baijayant Panda is the BJP national vice president and official spokesperson. The national party has also made Jay Panda the election in charge of managing Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Uttar Pradesh. He reportedly played a prominent role in abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been a four-time MP: twice to the Rajya Sabha in 2000 and 2006 and two times in the Lok Sabha in 2009 and 2014. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kendrapara constituency in 2014 on behalf of Biju Janata Dal. BJD reportedly suspended him from the party for being against the party’s whip.

With an engineering and management degree from the Michigan Technological University Jay Panda has worked in the corporate sector before joining politics. In 2008, he was awarded the Bharat Asmita National Award for best parliamentary practices by the CJI. Being a member of parliament, Baijayant Jay Panda has been a member of many important committees like the Parliamentary standing committee on finance, home, energy, urban development and consultative committee for the ministry of finance.

The Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency consists of 7 assembly regions: Salipur, Mahanga, Patkura, Kendrapara, Aul, Rajanagar, and Mahakalapada. In the last legislative assembly elections in Odisha, all of the seats were taken over by the BJD candidates. The constituency has been a BJD stronghold in the Parliamentary elections also as since 1998 only BJD candidates are winning the Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat. However, the BJP has seen a significant rise in the vote share in the constituency during the last Lok Sabha elections.

Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat is a general category parliament seat comprising parts of Cuttack district and the entire Kendrapara district. Here the literacy rate is higher than the national average at 75.92%. The SC, ST and Muslim populations in the constituency is 20.79%, 1.54% and 5.8% respectively.

The Lok Sabha election results 2024 will be announced on June 4, 2024.
