Amidst the mob attack on foreign students in Kyrgyzstan, India urged its citizens in the country to stay indoors. The advisory was announced after several Pakistani students were injured in a mob attack in their hostel. Foreign Minister, S Jaishankar asked Indian students to stay in regular touch with the embassy. Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Internal Affairs said the situations are under control now.
Taking to their X (formerly twitter) account, the Indian Consulate released 24×7 contact number for the Indian students, and asked them to be in regular touch. It said though the situation is presently calm, the students should stay indoors.
Jaishankar said the welfare of students in Bishkek are being monitored, and the situation is reportedly calm now.

The Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over the incident and said that he directed Pakistan”s Ambassador to provide all the necessary assistance.

Social media response claim that three Pakistani students were killed during the attack, but the country”s government said they have not received any reports of death. According to the Pakistani embassy, the matter escalated after videos of fight between the Kyrgyz and Egyptian students on may 13 went viral on Friday.
The angry mob targeted hostels of medical universities of Bishkek, were students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh lived. Pakistan Consulate in Kyrgyzstan said only light injuries were reported. Taking to X, it said, “so far, a few hostels of medical universities in Bishkek and private residences of international students including Pakistanis have been attacked. The hostels are inhabited by students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. There have been reports of light injuries to several students from Pakistan”.
The consulate also added that despite the social media posts death and rape of Pakistani students, they have not received any reports yet. The consulate further added that they are “liaising with local law enforcement authorities to ensure safety of our student fraternity”.

The Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Internal Affairs released a press statement ensuring that situations are under control. The press release read, “Police officers are working in intensive mode. Police officers organized patrols and carried out explanatory work. In order to ensure security, the police, together with the personnel of the regional department of internal affairs, internal troops and other law enforcement agencies, in an enhanced manner, ensure public order. Traffic in all streets of the capital for vehicles has been restored”.
