The first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections has concluded. The elections were held across 21 states and union territories. A national average of 62.87 percent of voter turnout has been recorded by the end of voting across the states and UTs.

As per reports, Tripura recorded the highest voter turnout (79.9 percent) among the 21 states and union territories voting today. Following closely behind is West Bengal, with 77.57 percent voter turnout. Union territory Puducherry and the state of Assam also recorded good voter turnout, with 73.25 percent and 71.38 percent, respectively.

However, the lowest voter turnout has been recorded in the state of Bihar – 47.49 percent. Six districts in Nagaland reported nearly zero voter turnout following the election boycott by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Front (ENPO) demanding a separate territory. The state’s Chief Election Officer has issued a notice condemning the ENPO’s actions. Nagaland recorded a total voter turnout of 56.77 percent.

Violence-torn Manipur recorded 68.62 percent of the voter turnout. An altercation had broken out between locals and unidentified people in the assembly constituency of Thongju in the Lok Sabha seat of Inner Manipur.

The states and union territories where the elections were held today are Arunachal Pradesh (2 seats), Assam (5 seats), Bihar (4 seats), Chhattisgarh (1 seat), Madhya Pradesh (6 seats), Maharashtra (5 seats), Manipur (2 seats), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1 seat), Nagaland (1 seat), Rajasthan (12 seats), Sikkim (1 seat), Tamil Nadu (39 seats), Tripura (1 seat), Uttar Pradesh (8 seats), Uttarakhand (5 seats), West Bengal (3 seats), Andaman and Nicobar (1 seat), Jammu and Kashmir (1 seat), Lakshadweep (1 seat), and Puducherry (1 seat).

Around 16.63 crore voters, including 8.4 crore men, 8.23 crore women, and 11,371 third genders, cast their votes.
