Nawada: RJD Nominates Shrawan Kushwaha Against “Outsider” Vivek Thakur Of NDA

Edited by Aishwarya Krishnan

In the native place of Bihar’s first chief minister, Krishna Sinha, the Nawada Lok Sabha constituency elections will be contested between INDIA bloc candidate Shrawan Kushwaha and NDA’s Vivek Thakur.

“Jo yahan ka beta hoga, wahi yahan ka neta hoga (only a local candidate will be the leader of this place),” declared RJD’s Kushwaha. Thakur, a former Rajya Sabha MP, has been considered an outsider in the area.

Notably, both candidates are contesting the elections for the first time. Kushwaha stated that the people of Nawada seek industrial development, employment opportunities, and to resolve traffic issues, for which he believes a local candidate such as him is the ideal choice. He added that the region lacks good schools offering quality education to children.

Kushwaha, who joined politics in 2001, also praised RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for delivering his promise of providing five lakh jobs in spite of being the deputy chief minister.

Recently, reports came in about two RJD MLAs – Prakash Veer and Vibha Devi – extending their support to independent candidate Vinod Yadav, brother of Rajballav Yadav, who is currently serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor, instead of their own candidate. Notably, Ms. Devi is his wife. The party is considering action to be taken against the MLAs.

With a population of over 22 lakh (as per the 2011 census) in Nawada, the Nawada Lok Sabha constituency comprises Vidhan Sabhas such as Barbigha, Rajauli (SC), Hisua, Nawada, Gobindpur, and Warisaliganj.

In the 2019 elections, Lok Jan Shakti Party’s (LJP) secured victory with 4.9 lakh votes, while RJD’s Ms. Devi won 3.4 lakh votes.
