Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating Karan Bhushan Singh, the son of the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and the sexual harassment accused Brij Bhushan. Taking to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Congress general secretary in charge of communication said that it (BJP) is “a party with no moral compass.”
Referring to the recent exposition of the BJP candidate Prajwal Revanna“s alleged sex abuse report, the Congress Rajya Sabha MP wrote that there are always new lows for them to fall to. “They have now rewarded Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment by many of our women wrestlers, with a ticket for his son. This is a party with no moral compass, led by a man whose only anchor is his desire for boundless power.” Jairam Ramesh wrote.
Just when we thought that the Prajwal Revanna scandal had exposed the the depths of the BJP’s depravity, they show that there are always new lows for them to fall to. They have now rewarded Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment by many of our women wrestlers,…

Brij Bhushan is the saffron party”s sitting MP from Uttar Pradesh”s Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency. Notably, when the BJP announced its candidate for the 2024 general elections, the party dropped the six-time MP but instead gave the ticket to his 28-year-old son, Karan Bhushan Singh.
Karan Bhushan had succeeded his father as the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association president in February, despite protest from wrestlers such as Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik against the election of Karan Bhushan.
Brij Bhushan was removed as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India following the accusations of sexual exploitation and intimidation by the wrestlers.
It is learnt that the BJP decided to drop the former chief of the wresters” body to avoid criticism for fielding a man accused of sexual abuse by the country”s top wrestling champions. The BJP is already facing severe criticism following the sexual scandal allegations against ally Janata Dal (Secular)”s Hassam MP Prajwal Revanna.
However, the BJP”s picking of Karan Bhushan Singh, the son of the Brij Bashan appears to be inviting the same level of criticism as the party fielding the sexual abuse accused. Given the proximity of the candidate with the accused MP, the Congress leader Jairam Ramesh”s attack on the BJP”s nomination appears relevant.
