“Rahul Gandhi’s DNA Needs To Be Tested”: Kerala Left MLA PV Anvar Stirs Controversy

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Nilambur Assembly constituency MLA PV Anvar from CPM-led left front in Kerala has stirred a new political controversy by launching a scathing attack on Congress leader and Wayanad candidate Rahul Gandhi. His remark came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s comment against the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The continued criticism and blame game has now heightened in the state of Kerala. The tussle between the two INDIA alliance constituents began ever since the announcement of the candidature of Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad last month.

Congress leaders in Kerala have been alleging that there exists a backdoor understanding between the Pinarayi Vijayan government and the BJP. Taking the fight further, Rahul Gandhi went on to question why Pinarayi Vijayan was not yet arrested by the central probe agency.

In the recent election rally, PV Anvar stated that Rahul Gandhi should undergo a DNA test, and till then he should only be referred be as ‘Rahul’ without ‘Gandhi’.

While addressing an election meeting in Palakkad district, the businessman-turned-MLA said the Congress leader had become a fourth-grade citizen who did not deserve to be called by the surname of Gandhi. Anvar, referring to the recent Congress leader’s comment against Kerala chief minister, asked how a person hailing from the Nehru family could make such statements.

The Left leaders too have come up strongly criticizing the Congress leader for his statement and said that he should target BJP and Modi instead of Vijayan.

Responding to the MLA’s remark, Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the Congress leader was not a person beyond criticism.

Meanwhile, the Congress strongly reacting to the alleged derogatory remark of the MLA, has decided to file a complaint with the Election Commission, reports millenniumpost

Senior Congress leader and AICC Secretary K C Venugopal also came out against the insulting remarks against Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi in March announced to be the party’s candidate in Wayanad, where he is the incumbent Member of Parliament. CPI’s senior leader Annie Raja is the Left candidate while BJP has fielded state chief K Surendran.
