Edited by Hiba Anvar

Sanjay Haribhau Jadhav also known as Bandu Jadhav, a member of the Shiv Sena is fielded as the candidate from the Parbhani constituency. The Prabhani constituency in Maharashtra will witness a close contest between sitting Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay and Dhangar leader Mahadev Jankar who has been fielded as the Mahayuti candidate.

Jadhav’s political journey began with significant early success, securing a seat in the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha from the Parbhani constituency in 2004 and 2009. His transition from state to national politics came in 2014 when he got elected to the 16th Lok Sabha. He represented the Parbhani constituency. Later, he was once again re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha elections.

For the upcoming election, in Prabhani, Jadhav is from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and is the candidate of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (I.N.D.I.A.), Jankar has been fielded by BJP from the quota of Ajit Pawar-led NCP and support of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena as Maha Yuti (NDA) prepares for a big fight.

Jadhav hopes to cash in on the recent pro-Maratha reservation projects and also to get votes from Muslims and minorities who are quite vocal against the saffron party. Further, the Shiv Sena goes back a long time in the constituency. Barring 1998, the Shiv Sena has been holding the seat since 1989 and is one of the constituencies in Marathwada with a strong party base.

In the 2019 elections, Shiv Sena (undivided) nominee Sanjay Jadhav won the Parbhani seat by polling 5,38,941 votes against NCP (undivided) candidate Rajesh Vitekar who got 4,96,742 votes.

In the 2014 elections, the Shiv Sena (undivided) nominee Sanjay Jadhav emerged victorious by polling 5,78,455 votes against NCP nominee Vijay Bhamle who got 4,51,300 votes.
