IPL 2024: Mohit Sharma Sparks Meme Fest On X After Most Expensive Spell In IPL

Gujarat Titans fast bowler Mohit Sharma sparked a meme fest on X after bowling the most expensive spell in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday.

Sharma, introduced to bowl in the 12th over, gave away 73 runs at an economy rate of 18.20 in his four overs spell. He broke the record of former SunRisers Hyderabad bowler Basil Thampi, who conceded 70 runs in his spell against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2018.

Incidentally, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant smashed him for 31 runs in the final over, including four sixes and a boundary to make his returns worse. His effort did not go well among the fans on X as they soon turned his poor spell into a meme fest.

The hosts capitalised on his poor effort as the posted a challenging total of 224/4 after being put into bat. Pant was the highest run scorer for his side with an unbeaten 88 while he was well-supported by Axar Patel who notched up 66 runs off 44 deliveries.

Sharma has picked up ten wickets from his nine outings in the IPL 2024. He had scalped 27 wickets with the best bowling figures of 5/10 in the last edition of IPL.

Gujarat Titans are currently placed in the sixth spot in the IPL 2024 points table with four wins and as many losses.
