A nurse in US was sentenced to 380-760 years in prison. The 41-year-old Heather Pressdee was charged for administering lethal doses of insulin to several patients over three years in an attempt to kill. Reportedly, she is responsible for the death of 17 patients from five health facilities between 2020 and 2023. She was pleaded guilty in three counts of murder and 19 counts of attempted murder.
The Pennsylvania based nurse was charged with giving excessive amount of insulin to 22 patients, including those who weren”t diabetic. She overdosed the patients during night shifts when less people were present. Most of the patients died immediately after receiving the dose, while some others died a while later. The victims were aged between 43 to 104 years.
Pressdee was initially charged for killing tow patients in May 2023. The police investigation then led to the multiple other charges against her. The families of the victims told the court that the nurse “tried to play God”, with her patients who were not ready to die. Her co-workers also reported that she showed hatred for patients and would often make derogatory comments about them.
Reportedly, in her text messages to her mother, she spoke about her unhappiness with her patients, colleagues and even at people she met at restaurant. She often told about wanting to harm them. In the court, Pressdee pressed to please guilty. When one of the lawyers asked her why she was pleading guilty, she said, “because I am guilty”.
One of the victim”s family member told the court that the nurse is not sick or insane but “evil personified. I looked into the face of Satan myself the morning she killed my father”, as quoted by media.
Heather Pressdee is not the first nurse to be convicted for killing patients. William Davis from Texas was responsible for killing four patients by injecting air into the artilleries after they underwent heart injuries. Another nurse was Charles Cullen, who killed at least 29 patients by injecting insulin.
