What Happened To Himani Narwal, The Viral Figure In Bharat Jodo Yatra?
A photograph of a young Congress leader wearing emerald green traditional attire, brimming with energy, walking alongside Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, caught the attention of many on social media. However, this aspiring politician’s life was tragically cut short when her body was discovered inside a suitcase near a flyover in Haryana’s Rohtak on last Saturday.
The incident occurred on the eve of the municipal elections to 33 bodies held across the state, with the results set to be announced on March 12. The Congress party immediately demanded a high-level probe into the death of the 22-year-old.

The suitcase was discovered by passers-by near the Sampla bus stand, who immediately informed the police. Upon reaching the scene, the police noted that the victim’s neck was wrapped with a dupatta, and she had mehendi on her hands. Her body was taken to PGIMS Rohtak for a post-mortem examination.
On Monday, the police announced that they had solved the murder case and arrested the victim’s Facebook friend, Sachin alias Dhillu, a 30-year-old resident of Khairpur village in Jhajjar. The accused, who is married with two children, had been friends with Himani for around a year and a half. He had been visiting her house in Vijay Nagar frequently for the past seven months. Himani’s mother and brother had been living in Delhi for an extended period.
Rohtak Range Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Krishan Kumar Rao briefed the media on the investigation. He stated that the crime occurred following an argument at Himani’s house on February 28. The accused strangled her with a mobile charger after tying her hands with a dupatta. He then stuffed her body into a suitcase along with a quilt that had blood stains.
After committing the crime, Sachin stole Himani’s mobile phone, laptop, and jewelry, and took these items to his mobile repair shop in Kanonda village, Jhajjar. Using Himani’s scooter, he transported the stolen goods. The police later revealed that Sachin returned to Himani’s house, then boarded an auto to the Delhi bypass in Rohtak. From there, he traveled by bus to Sampla, approximately 26 km away. He then walked about 80 meters before disposing of the suitcase in the bushes.

The police investigation also uncovered bite marks and scratches on the hands of the accused. According to sources, Sachin claimed that Himani had bitten his hand in an attempt to defend herself. There were also rumors suggesting that Himani may have been extorting money from the accused. However, the police clarified that while Himani was a Youth Congress worker, Sachin had no political connections. As of now, there is no evidence to support the claim that either party was extorting money from the other or that there was any pressure on Himani to marry Sachin. The accused, who was already married, had no such obligation to Himani, who was single.
Himani, a student at Vaish College of Law in Rohtak, had been missing before her body was discovered on March 1.

Himani Narwal is the office-bearer of the Youth Congress in Rohtak. Narwal became popular after appearing alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. She was also active with Bhupinder Hooda and Deepinder Hooda. According to Hindustan Times, she was known for performing Haryanvi folk artists at Congress rallies and social events. As per Narwal’s X account, she has mentioned her as the Indian Youth Congress vice President.
