Naga Folk Artist Guru Sangyusang Pongener Conferred Padma Shri By President Murmu
New Dellhi: Guru Sangyusang Pongener, an 81-year-old folk artist from Ungma, Mokokchung in Nagaland, received the Padma Shri from President Droupadi Murmu during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday, June 24.
The award honours Sangyusang for preserving Ao Naga folk music, dance, and culture, having trained over 2,000 young artists.
He’s Sangyusang Pongener, a Naga folk artist, who has been conferred with the Padma Shri award.

Guru Pongener appeared in vibrant traditional Naga attire. The award was conferred in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Hailing from Ungma village in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district, Guru Pongener has spent his life safeguarding indigenous heritage.
