Honda takes a significant stride towards its emission-free future with the global debut of the 2025 Honda CR-V featuring a hydrogen fuel cell. As part of its ambitious goal to achieve a fully emission-free lineup by 2040, which includes both battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles, Honda unveils the CR-V e:FCEV in the United States. This groundbreaking model marks America”s first production plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, developed jointly by Honda and General Motors.
The 2025 CR-V e:FCEV boasts impressive capabilities, offering a range of over 434 km (EPA) on a full tank of hydrogen, supplemented by an additional 47 km of battery-powered EV range. Scheduled for customer leasing availability in California by year-end, this SUV will be manufactured at Honda”s Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio.
Externally, the CR-V e:FCEV exhibits distinctive features, including new body panels forward of the A-pillar, unique liftgate and rear fascia designs, and striking 18-inch, 10-spoke black wheels. Notably, its exclusive low upright grille design and long hood contribute to its aggressively sleek appearance. Moreover, the vehicle”s signature vertical taillights ensure instant recognition as a CR-V from the rear.
Inside the cabin, the CR-V e:FCEV offers a blend of modern technology and comfort. The dashboard features a striking metal honeycomb mesh concealing the air con vents, creating a visually appealing interior. Available in a single fully-loaded Touring variant, the fuel cell-powered CR-V comes equipped with premium features such as a 9-inch touchscreen central infotainment system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument console, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and wireless phone charging. Additionally, amenities include a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, power adjustable heated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, parking sensors, and sustainable materials like bio-based leather seat upholstery.
Under the hood, the CR-V e:FCEV is propelled by Honda”s second-generation fuel cell technology, featuring a 17.7 kWh battery paired with a front-mounted single-motor generating 174 bhp and 310 Nm of torque. The fuel cell model boasts a power output of 92.2 kW and offers four drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, and Snow. Furthermore, the vehicle”s hardware has been updated for enhanced performance, with improvements in rear lateral rigidity and torsional rigidity, as well as re-tuned MacPherson strut front suspension and multilink rear suspension.
