Mahindra is gearing up to launch one of its most anticipated SUVs of the year, the Thar 5-door, now officially named the Thar Roxx. Scheduled for an August 15 release in India, the Thar Roxx is set to offer more features and enhancements than its 3-door predecessor, promising to elevate the off-roading and lifestyle SUV segment.
Exterior and Design Features
The Thar Roxx has been teased in a series of images that reveal several design updates and confirm many details previously spotted during undisguised test drives. A notable change is the new double-stacked six-slot grille, replacing the seven-slot design found on the 3-door Thar. Despite retaining its iconic circular headlamps, the Thar Roxx will now sport an advanced LED projector setup complemented by C-shaped DRLs, enhancing its modern look.
In addition to its striking new face, the Thar Roxx will come equipped with a suite of premium features aimed at improving the driving experience. Among these are dual 10.25-inch displays that will likely offer an array of infotainment and vehicle information options. A panoramic sunroof is another significant upgrade, providing an open-air feel that’s perfect for both urban and off-road adventures.
Further enhancing its appeal, the Thar Roxx will include a 360-degree camera for better maneuverability and safety, especially in tight spots. LED lighting around the vehicle ensures better visibility and a contemporary aesthetic. Completing the look are diamond-cut alloy wheels that add a touch of elegance to its rugged demeanour.
Advanced Features and Safety
The Thar Roxx is not just about looks; it’s packed with advanced safety features as well. One of the standout additions is the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes various safety technologies designed to prevent accidents and enhance driving comfort. This is a significant upgrade from the 3-door version and positions the Thar Roxx as a more sophisticated choice for safety-conscious buyers.
Powertrains and Performance
Mahindra is offering a range of powertrains for the Thar Roxx to cater to different preferences. There will be three engine options: a 1.5-litre diesel, a 2.2-litre diesel, and a 2.0-litre petrol. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be available, providing flexibility for various driving styles. Like its 3-door counterpart, the Thar Roxx will come with both rear-wheel-drive and 4WD configurations, ensuring it remains a capable off-roader.
Launch Timeline and Expected Price
Ahead of its official launch on August 15, production of the Thar 5-door has already begun, and unofficial bookings are being accepted at the dealer level. Positioned above the 3-door Thar in Mahindra’s lineup, the Thar Roxx is expected to compete with other 5-door off-roaders such as the Force Gurkha and the Maruti Jimny. Additionally, it will be pitted against midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
The Thar Roxx is expected to be priced starting around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a competitive option in its segment. With its blend of modern features, enhanced safety, and multiple powertrain options, the Thar Roxx aims to set a new benchmark in the lifestyle SUV market.
