Swift 2024 is to enter with a new Z series 3Cyl engine, boasting of a mileage of 40 kms per litre. At the japan Mobility Show, Maruti Suzuki introduced its fourth generation Swift which has undergone a cache of functional improvements. The fourth generation Swift would come with a brand-new Z-series engine, reported the Rushlane. In future, the new Z-series can also be added with other Suzuki cars such as Baleno, Fronx, Ignis and Eeco.
To be launched in 2024, the new Swift would have a fresh 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder and an engine, which would be a naturally aspirated engine, codenamed as Z12. The new Z-series is expected to exhibit a high level of fuel efficiency.
The current Swift engine reports a mileage of 22.38 kms per litre, with manual transmission and 22.56 kms per litre with AGS while the new engine could bring in a 40 kms per litre in test conditions, said Rushlane. The CNG adds in 30.90 km/kg. Three cylinders and a 400cc each could enhance the efficiency and torque. The power output could be similar to that of the current K-series while the torque could be higher. Another change could be a stronger torque at the lower range. The current K-series engine is of free acceleration.
The Z-series is expected to be lighter with a cylinder less than the K-series. The new engine could also lead to Suzuki’s carbon reduction, which would be tallying with the automaker’s CAFÉ objectives. In Indian markets, Swift could remain with the standard engine, while at international markets, the car could have a robust 48V strong hybrid powertrain.
The Z-series engine can boast of fuel efficiency, but it cannot be compared to an EV. With EV’s almost trending as a norm, it is surprising that Suzuki is bringing out a new engine series. The aim could be, countries which would take a longer route for carbon neutralisation, for India, the plan for becoming carbon neutral is 2070. The Z-series introduction could, later, be a replacement for the engines of other Suzuki models. The K-series can be replaced by the Z-series in future.
