Elon Musk”s Tesla has made a significant achievement as its Model Y has taken the crown for the world’s best-selling vehicle in 2023. As per the preliminary data from JATO Dynamics, the Tesla Model Y claimed the top spot with estimated sales of 1.23 million units in 2023. The Model Y is a mid-sized crossover SUV built by Tesla.

The findings of preliminary data collected by JATO Dynamics indicate that the Model Y, unveiled in 2020, is the first electric vehicle to top the global ranking. Tesla sold 1.23 million units of Model Y between January and December 2023, and this marks a 64 percent year-on-year increase. Market research firm JATO also earlier mentioned in its blog that 2023 will mark the end of Toyota’s top position in the ranking, with the RAV4 and Corolla having led the global rankings in recent years.

As per the data, the second-best-selling vehicle in 2023 is Toyota RAV4, with 1.07 million units currently sold globally. JATO”s preliminary data also suggested that Toyota’s Corolla occupied third place in the ranking, with 1.01 million units. It is to be noted that JATO also mentioned that a small number of markets are yet to release their sales figures for 2023.

At the same time, Chinese company BYD recently overtook Tesla to become the world’s biggest electric car company in the final quarter of 2023. While Chinese manufacturer sold a record 526,409 battery-only vehicles in the fourth quarter, US-based Tesla delivered 484,507 vehicles.
