Billionaire Elon Musk recently shared a video in which the Tesla Optimus robot can be seen folding a shirt on its own without any assistance. The video has gone viral on social media platforms, and it indicates Tesla’s advancements in the field of technology and their vision for the future beyond electric vehicles.

“Optimus folds a shirt,” wrote Tesla CEO Elon Musk on X as the caption while sharing the video. In the video, the humanoid robot can be seen taking a black t-shirt from a bucket and proceeding to fold it with ease, setting it aside. However, after posting the video, Elon Musk also added that the current Optimus iteration cannot perform this task autonomously. “Important note: Optimus cannot yet do this autonomously, but certainly will be able to do this fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (won’t require a fixed table with box that has only one shirt),” said Eon Musk about 30 minutes after posting the video.

Meanwhile, certain X users have raised doubts over the video. YouTuber Marques Brownlee, one of the tech world’s most influential personalities, asked whether the video was computer-generated. “This is a video, not CG?” asked Marques Brownlee. However, several users have hailed Tesla”s innovation. “Amazing work. Congrats to the team!” commented a user.

Elon Musk unveiled the humanoid ‘Optimus’ robot in September 2022. On that occasion, the Tesla boss also predicted that the robot could hit a price of “probably less than $20,000.” In December 2023, Tesla introduced Optimus-Gen 2, the second generation of its Optimus humanoid robot, with numerous improvements. Tesla also mentioned that the Optimus Gen-2 is 30 percent faster than the older version. Elon Musk had also posted a video of Optimus Gen-2 on December 13, in which the robot was seen boiling eggs, walking, and dancing.
