Airport pick-up fees in Bengaluru have surged by 22-40% for the Uber and Ola app-based aggregation. It was said that the Cab rides from the airport have now become more expensive to reach the destination, as per Money control. According to the reports, Uber airport pick-up charge has surged from Rs 187.62 to Rs 260.78 per ride and Ola transport charge has been hiked to Rs 215 from Rs 172 per trip.

It has been increased by Uber-Ola aggregators as per its concessionaire agreement renewal that the cab rides may confront a hike in Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL). Ola, Uber, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), WTi Cabs, COR, Refex Mobility and BluSmart, are the authorised cab providers in the airport that signed the agreement.

Uber and Ola Cab pick-up charges have increased at both terminals, but Terminal 2 (T2) bears the brunt of the hike, for instance, Uber’s pick-up fee has jumped from Rs 187 to Rs 230 at Terminal 1 (a 23% increase) and from Rs 187 to Rs 260 at Terminal 2 (a 39% increase), Overall, the hike in pick-up fees for ride-hailing services ranges from 22% to 40%.

In July, the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) renewed its agreements with Uber and Ola, resulting in a significant increase in pickup fees for both ride-hailing services. The new pickup fees will be in effect for the next three years but are subject to change as per the agreement. However, these new price hikes are expected to impact and make it hectic for passengers who use frequent ride-hailing services from the airport.

Uber said in a statement that the pick-up fee is been hiked as a part of the commercial agreement with the airport as the company does not retain the new charges and the revised fares including commission charges and applicable taxes will be shown upfront at the booking time.

Passengers have raised concerns and escalated their tension that a single cab trip is seen huge difference from the regular fare in the Bengaluru airport.

According to reports, the recent increase in fees has not led to any changes in the infrastructure or other facilities at BIAL. The parking for drivers and cashless payments will remain unchanged. The pick-up fee is not expected to decrease, even though negotiations are ongoing, and is likely to stay the same for the next three years.
