RBI Governor Tops Global Finance Rankings Again With A+ Grade

It is the second consecutive year that Shaktikanda Das has been selected as one of the toppers in the report cards.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das was again rated A+ in the Global Finance Central Banker Report 2024 for his excellent performance. It is the second consecutive year that Shaktikanda Das has been selected as one of the toppers in the report cards. RBI shared their jubilance through the X platform with a felicitation note.


The Global Finance magazine has released the names of those who earned the highest grades (A+, A) in the Central Banker Report Cards 2024. It is published annually ranking the Central Bank Governors on account of their performances every year. Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards honour those bank leaders whose strategies outperformed their peers through originality, creativity and tenacity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X that Shakntikant Das’s victory has been considered a recognition of his leadership and his commitment to ensuring stability and economic growth bagging it for the second time.

One of the major industrialists Anand Mahindra also congratulated Governor Shaktikanta Das mentioning that he is the “gold medal in the Central Bank Olympics.” He wrote in his X post that our Governor is capable of proving his ‘Shakti’ to the world as he bagged a gold medal in the Central Bank Olympics.

In 2023, Shakntikanta Das secured the same A+ category recognition in the Global Central Banker Report Cards 2023. This ranking has been started since 1994, taking nearly 100 key countries, territories and districts along with the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Central Bank of West African States and the Bank of Central African States. The grades are based on an A+ to F scale considering success in areas such as inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability and interest rate management. A represents an excellent performance and F for outright failure.

Global Finance founder and editorial director Joseph Giarraputo said that the Central bankers waged war against inflation over the past years handling their major weapon called higher interest rates and now the world is witnessing the tangible results of these efforts as inflation has dwindled significantly.

Shaktikanta Das (born February 26, 1957) is currently serving as the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Before this role, he was a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission and India’s Sherpa to the G20. Das is a retired 1980-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre.

During his career as an IAS officer, Das served in various capacities for the Indian and Tamil Nadu governments, including as Economic Affairs Secretary, Revenue Secretary, and Fertilizers Secretary. He has also served as India’s Alternate Governor in the World Bank, ADB, NDB, and AIIB. Additionally, he has represented India in various international forums such as the IMF, G20, BRICS, and SAARC.
