Delhi University Denies Leave To Professor Who Joined Podcast With Kunal Kamra

Delhi University allegedly denied leave to Professor Apoorvanand for an academic event in America after his appearance on Kunal Kamra’s podcast. The podcast was uploaded on YouTube on April 15, 2025, and on April 17, the professor was denied leave to attend the event.

Kunal Kamra shared the information on the social media and called out the state of academic freedom in Indian universities.

Prof Apoorvanand Jha, a Delhi University professor, discussed censorship in Indian Universities on Kamra’s post, released on April 15, 2025.

Reportedly, Apoorvanand has remained a critic of cultural erasure in education, calling CBSE syllabus changes ‘cultural genocide’. The DU professor was asked to submit his talk’s text for approval, which he calls censorship.
