DU Student Alleges Harassment; Counterclaims Sparks Debate

A controversy has erupted at Delhi University after a first-year M.A. student of the Department of African Studies, identified as Chitra, alleged that a professor harassed her over academic matters and that she was pressured by department authorities to delete Instagram reels she posted about the issue.

Her video went viral and sparked widespread outrage online, with many demanding action from the DU administration. In the viral video, Chitra claimed that the HOD of the department has pressured her to apologize to the professor and delete all the videos she uploaded on social media.

However, a new turn came after several students from her own department released videos countering her claims. The students alleged that her accusations were false and claimed the incident stemmed from an internal assessment on 29 November 2025, during which the professor had only constructively questioned the marking of her presentation.

They further alleged that she argued with the professor and later posted abusive content against him on social media, and exaggerated the issue to gain online popularity.

With two sharply conflicting narratives now in the public domain, student groups and observers are calling for a fair, transparent, and unbiased inquiry by the Delhi University administration to establish the truth and ensure justice for all parties involved.
