'Education Minister Does Not Know Kannada': Student Remark Draws Flak
The Karnataka Education Minister was irked by a statement made during an online video conference by a student. The Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa responded by describing the remarks as ‘stupid’ and told authorities to take action against the student. The incident happened during the launch of a free online coaching course for students to prepare for competitive exams.
The coaching prepares nearly 25,000 students for admission to engineering and medical courses including Karnataka Common Entrance Test, JEE, and NEET. The Karnataka minister of school education and literacy, Madhu Bangarappa has often targeted by the opposition for his poor knowledge of kannada.

In a video showed on social media, the student remarked, ‘the Education Minister does not know Kannada’, and responding to this, the Bangarappa said, “What? Who is it? Am i speaking Urdu?”.
“Please record this and take action against him. This is very stupid. Tell the teacher and the BEO (Block Education Officer), this has to be taken up very seriously. I cannot sit quietly”, said he.
The minister’s reaction draws criticism from the Opposition BJP and Karnataka BJP shared a cartoon on social media targeting the minister and said, “Madhu Bangarappa himself had revealed earlier that he does not know kannada much. Today when the same was reminded by a student, he ordered severe action against the student, his teachers and BEO. This is the height of stupidity. This kind of dictatorial attitude of Congressmen is dangerous for democracy”.
Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister and MP from Karnataka while sharing the Madhu Bangarappa comment on social media X wrote, “Hadn’t Madhu Bangarappa publicly admitted that he doesn’t know Kannada?? Why is the @INCKarnataka punishing the student who reminded him of this?? What are they trying to achieve here ?? What else can be expected of hopeless Congress??”
