Vazhayur, Kerala: The growing convergence of microbiology with emerging areas of life science research took centre stage at BioConvergence 2026, a two-day national seminar on “Integrating Biosciences for Sustainable Development: Microbial Innovations and Emerging Frontiers”, organised by the PG and Research Department of Microbiology, SAFI Institute of Advanced Study (Autonomous), Vazhayur, in collaboration with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI), on August 19 and 20.

The seminar brought together researchers, scientists, teachers and students to exchange ideas on emerging developments in microbiology and explore the role of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing contemporary scientific and societal challenges.

The inaugural session was presided over by SAFI Institute of Advanced Study (Autonomous) Principal and CEO of SAFI Group of Institutions Prof. E.P. Imbichikoya. Dr Aravind M. Deshmukh, President of the Microbiologists Society, India, inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural address, he emphasised the importance of scientific collaboration and stronger links between research institutions, academic departments and the wider scientific community.
