After incessant rain continued to hit the district for the last two days, Alappuzha District Collector has announced holiday for schools and colleges under his administrative area for Wednesday, including professional institutions.

Heavy Rain: Holiday For School, Colleges On Wednesday

After incessant rain continued to hit the district for the last two days, District Collectors in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Kozhikode have announced holiday for schools and colleges under their administrative areas for Wednesday, including professional institutions. However, the announcement from the district administrations said examinations, which were planned for Wednesday, will be held as planned earlier. “A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions including professional colleges in the district tomorrow (Wednesday) due to heavy rains and waterlogging. This does not apply to examinations,” Alappuzha District Collector announced through social media. These districts have been witnessing incessant rains for the last couple of days.

Heavy rain continueds to wreak havoc in many parts of the state for the last two days. According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy monsoon showers will continue in the state, especially in the northern region, till July 19.

 

Earlier, orange alert was issued for the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod for Tuesday due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall.

Heavy rain has been causing destruction across the state since Monday. Many trees were uprooted and houses damaged in several areas as rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed across the state.

In many places, traffic was disrupted and power lines were snapped in areas that received heavy rain.

As per the IMD alert, the strong wind with speeds reaching up to 30-40 kmph, gusting to 50 kmph, is likely to prevail occasionally over Kerala from 15th to 17th kmph.

A yellow alert was earlier issued for seven districts – Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad.
