The Odisha government has announced the holiday for all schools, colleges, and educational institutes in Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts. The schools in these districts will remain closed till October 25 in the wake of Cyclone ‘Dana’.
IMD has issued a red alert for October 24 in the coastal districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted the formation of a low-pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal at 11:30 hours IST on Monday. It expects to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and turn into a cyclonic storm by October 23, over the east-central Bay of Bengal.

As per the IMD, this will move northwestwards and reach the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning. This will further cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of the 24th and morning of October 25, as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of nearly 100-110 Kmph up to 120 kmph.
According to the Special Relief Commissioner, this will impact Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts with wind action as well as heavy rainfall. Keeping this in view, the schools in the above districts will remain closed as a precautionary measure from October 23 to 25, 2024.
Also, President Droupadi Murmu’s 3-day plan to Odisha has been postponed amid the cyclone predictions. She was supposed to travel to Bangriposi, Uparbeda, Rairangpur, Puri, and Bhubaneswar.
