Jamia Millia Islamia Develops Drone R&D And Assembly Facility At Its Campus

The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI)  achieved a significant milestone with the opening of a state-of-the-art Drone Research and Development (R&D) and Assembly Facility, created by ENORD Pvt. Ltd., a start-up incubated at CIEJMI. The inauguration ceremony held on December 9, 2024, was graced by Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar of JMI.

The event was attended by Prof. Mini S. Thomas, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Prof. Simi Malhotra, In-Charge, CIE, Prof. Nilofar Afzal, Dean, Students’ Welfare, many other senior officials of the university and team of CIE. The initiative was appreciated by all.

During the event, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi interacted with the founders of ENORD Pvt. Ltd. and several other start-ups incubated at CIE-JMI. He commended their progress, stating, “I am delighted to witness the achievements of these budding entrepreneurs from JMI. They represent the new generation that will shape the future of India.”

Prof. Rizvi also engaged with students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Design Thinking and participants in various short-term skill-based courses. He toured the facilities at CIE, including the Beauty Parlour Training Facility, Tailoring Training Facility, JMIJAL Plant, JMI Bakery, and the Co-Working Space, appreciating the availability of resources to students.

Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, the Director of CIE, articulated the Centre’s future vision, emphasising the intention to increase the volume of innovations and patents. He also informed the Registrar that CIE has recently submitted three patent applications for ground-breaking technologies created by start-up founders. He added, “The Drone R&D facility established by ENORD Pvt. Ltd. will support the start-up and serve as a resource for students and faculty members. Moreover, CIE plans to launch a short-term course on Drone Technology, which will benefit university students and the surrounding community, offering an opportunity for internships and skill development”.

This development is a testament to JMI’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development, ensuring its students are equipped to contribute to a progressive and selfreliant India.
