
JMI Registrar Prof Mahtab Alam Appointed As Visiting Professor Of Nepal's Lumbini Buddhist University
Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has been appointed to join Lumbini Buddhist University, Nepal, as a Visiting Professor at its South Asia Centre for Peace Research & Sustainable Development. The Centre’s mission is to strengthen and promote research on peacebuilding, diplomacy, regional cooperation, and sustainable development across the globe.
Stating that he was pleased to join Lumbini Buddhist University, Nepal, as a visiting professor, Prof. Rizvi said, “I am grateful for this opportunity to advance peacebuilding, fostering regional cooperation, diplomacy, and sustainable development.”

Prof. Rizvi is a distinguished academician, scholar, and administrator with more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. He assumed charge as a regular Registrar of JMI on March 12, 2025, for a period of five years. Prior to that, he served as the Director of the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, JMI.
In the past, he has held positions with prominent government organizations and premier think tanks, such as the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) in New Delhi. He specializes in international relations, foreign policy, and security studies with a focus on Iran, Iran’s nuclear program, issues of conflict and peace in West Asia and North Africa region, peacebuilding in South Asia and West Asia and Iran-China economic, political, and defence relations.

Prof. Rizvi has been a Visitor’s Nominee of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Court since April 2022 and serves as an external member of the Institutional Academic Integrity Panel (IAIP) Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, besides serving on the boards of several Centres and Departments of JMI. A Ph. D. in Political Science (International Relations) from AMU, Prof. Rizvi has been a recipient of the coveted Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Scholarship for Doctoral Studies, Teen Murti House, New Delhi.
A prolific scholar, Prof. Rizvi has garnered widespread recognition for his work from scholars in India and abroad.
