As the counting is completed for the Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union (JNUSU) elections2024, the Left alliance in the campus has swept the central panel of president, vice president, general secretary and joint secretary. RSS’ student-wing ABVP has been decimated in the campus, which is in the centre of both the national capital and the political discourse in the country. AISA’s Dhananjay won the president’s post while SFI candidate Avijit Ghosh has bagged the vice president post. Priyanshi Arya, supported by both the Left alliance and BAPSA, has been elected as the general secretary. Mo Sajid from AISF won the joint secretary post.
All the winning candidates defeated ABVP members who came in the second position. According to reports, the Left alliance have also managed to win significant number of councilor posts in various schools in the campus, which is historically a Left dominated university in the country when it comes to students” politics.
Dipankar Bhattacharya, the general secretary of CPI (ML), the party which is associated with the main constituent in the Left alliance, AISA, applauded the student community for the mandate.
“A big applause to JNU students for rebuffing the violent vandal brigade and giving a renewed mandate to AISA – All India Students” Association and the united Left panel. The Left panel candidate”s nomination had got cancelled on GS post and the Left panel showed great political maturity and largeheartedness to support the BAPSA candidate as GS. Kudos to Comrade Dhananjay and other winners of the Left panel and BAPSA,” the wrote on a social media post.
