Already reeling under the scrutiny for the mismanagement of medical entrance exam NEET, and PhD, JRF and assistant professor eligibility exam UGC NET, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has now postponed another government examination – Joint CSIR-UGC-NET. In a statement released by the NTA on its official website nta.ac.in, the autonomous organisation under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has on Friday announced that the CSIR-UGC-NET has been postponed and said the revised schedule will be announced later.
CSIR-UGC-NET is similar to the UGC NET, but for the entrance and eligibility test for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and assistant professorship in science subjects in Indian universities and colleges. Earlier, the union education ministry had announced the cancellation of UGC NET conducted by NTA, which is being held for the arts, commerce and humanities subjects.
As per reports, the UGC-NET held on Tuesday faced a serious breach and its question paper was leaked 48 hours earlier and sold on the dark web and encrypted social media platforms for Rs 6 lakh, NDTV quotes sources from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is now investigating the leak and the circumstances that caused the cancellation of the examination.
The education ministry cancelled the UGC NET exam on Wednesday, citing input from the anti-cybercrime unit.
However, the NTA has not cited any reason for the postponement of CSIR-UGC-NET examination which was scheduled by held next week in various centres across India.
On June 15, the NTA had intimated the candidates about the examination city of the Joint CSIR-UGCNET examination June-2024 along with schedule of examination.
“The candidates are hereby informed that the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET Examination June-2024 which was scheduled to be held between 25.06.2024 to 27.06.2024 is being postponed due to unavoidable circumstances as well as logistic issues,” the latest notification from the NTA said.
It added that the revised schedule for the conduct of this examination will be announced later through the official website.
“The Candidates are advised to keep visiting the official website: https://csirnet.nta.ac.in. for the latest updates,” the official notification said.
The Opposition was quick to attack the government on the issue as the postponement was announced. Congress’ general secretary in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh said: “Yet another NTA exam postponed. This time it is the CSIR-UGC-NET. Clearly, NTA has become Narendra’s Trauma Agency for youth.”
“What is happening? Right now there is a ruckus over NEET and NET that Now NTA has also cancelled the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET exam. This exam was to be held between 25 June to 27 June. Why is the future of the youth of this country being ruined? Doesn’t it matter to Narendra Modi?,” asked Congress’ Supriya Shrinate.
