NTA Reforms: High-Level Committee To Meet Today; Under K. Radhakrishnan Chairmanship

The seven-member high-level committee of experts to oversee the matters related to the controversy surrounding the inefficiency of the National Testing Agency (NTA) will meet today. The committee chaired by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan will provide recommendations for reforms in the examination process, evaluate of overall structure and functioning of the agency, and enhance the data security protocol.

The committee will submit its report within two months and reportedly, the recommendations will be implemented by the next exam cycle. The panel will also suggest required changes in the exam calendar. The government’s decision to form the committee came after the scrutiny and the nationwide protests calling for the abolition of NTA. The 67 toppers with perfect scores and several reports of paper leaks prompted the question of reforms in the testing agency.

In addition, the matter has been transferred to the CBI and the investigation agency has formed a special team to probe the matter. It will probe into the isolated incidents reported in different states during the NEET UG 2024 examination held on May 5, 2024.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has claimed that it website and portals are fully secure and dismisses any claims of security breaches as ‘wrong and misleading’.

The High-Level Committee of Experts is constituted by

  • Dr. K. Radhakrishnan (Chairman), Former Chairman, of ISRO and Chairman of BoG, IIT Kanpur
  • Dr. Randeep Guleria (former director, AIIMS, Delhi)
  • Prof. B J Rao (VC, Uni. of Hyderabad)
  • Prof. Ramamurthy K. (IIT Madras)
  • Pankaj Bansal (Co-founder, people strong and board member-Karmaygi Bharat)
  • Aditya Mittal (Dean student affairs, IIT Delhi)
  • Govind Jaiswal (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education)
