Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asked the BJP Telangana unit to ensure that the party wins at least 10 seats in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The senior BJP leader also set a target to secure a 35 percent vote share in Telangana in the upcoming election.

While addressing a meeting of the mandal presidents of the BJP in Hyderabad, Amit Shah asked the BJP workers to gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha election and forget the loss in the assembly polls. The party was able to secure only eight seats in the recently concluded Telangana Assembly election. During the meeting, the Union Home Minister said that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was a “sunken ship” and the Congress was a “sinking ship.” Amit Shah also said that the BJP is the future of Telangana.

“The Congress has no future as the results of the five state elections have shown,” the Times of India quoted Amit Shah as saying. Amit Shah pointed out that the future scenario will be the same in Telangana. The BJP leader also said that he will keep visiting Telangana till the BJP forms a government in the state. Amit Shah said that the state government may have changed, but it will not benefit the people.

This was Amit Shah”s first visit to Telangana after the Assembly polls. Amit Shah reviewed the Assembly election results and also offered prayers at the Bhagyalakshmi temple near the Charminar. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won four of the 17 seats in Telangana and achieved a vote share close to 20 percent. The BJP, which had polled 6.98 percent of total votes in the 2018 Assembly election, doubled its vote share in the 2023 election by 13.90 percent.
