Anumula Revanth Reddy, President of the Telangana Congress, took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Telangana in a grand ceremony at Hyderabad”s LB Stadium on December 7 (today) at 1 p.m. Reddy took over chief ministerialship from Telangana stalwart K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Dana Anasuya, Tummala Nageswar Rao, Konda Surekha, and Jupally Krishna Rao have also sworn in as ministers, and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister along with Revanth Reddy.
Being called “Tiger Revanth” by his followers, Anumula Revanth Reddy played a pivotal role in taking Congress to power, constituting grass-roots campaigning. This is the first time the Congress party is holding power in Telangana since the state was founded in 2014.
PM Modi congratulated Revanth on his swearing-in and assured all possible support for the development of the state. “Congratulations to Shri Revanth Reddy Garu on taking the oath as the Chief Minister of Telangana. I assure all possible support to further the progress of the state and the welfare of its citizens. @revanth_anumula,” PM Modi tweeted. The newly appointed chief minister is expected to sign his first order, passing the poll guarantee, on the first day of his office.
The Chief Minister-elect will offer the first job to a 38-year-old woman, as he had promised.
In light of Revanth Reddy”s swearing in, Congress mocked the BJP for having not announced the names of the chief ministers in the three states they won: Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
“Less than 24 hours after the election results were out on December 3rd, the Congress party was being criticized in the media by all and sundry for a so-called ‘delay’ in appointing a CM for Telangana. Well, our CM was announced the day before and is taking over at 1 p.m. today. But three days have gone by, and the BJP has been unable to even announce its CMs for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Why is the BJP not being called out for what is actually a delay?” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said.
