Bihar Results: Shubhanand Mukesh (JDU) Leads In Kahalgaon Where MGB Had A Friendly Contest

Shubhanand Mukesh (JDU) is leading in the Kahalgaon assembly constituency, located in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. Kahalgaon is a Scheduled Caste reserved seat with an evolving political history and interestingly this was one of such seats in which Congress and its alliance partner RLD engaged in ‘friendly’ fight. Mukesh is currently leading with over 4,000 votes.

As per the latest counting trends, Nitish Kumar-led National Development Alliance (NDA) is leading with massive majority and looking at a landslide victory.

Historically, the Indian National Congress (INC) dominated the seat through the 1980s and 1990s with leaders like Furkan Ansari. The constituency saw a major shift in 2020 when Pawan Kumar Yadav of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won decisively, breaking INC’s hold with a 56.23% vote share, defeating Congress candidate Shubhanand Mukesh by over 42,000 votes.

Kahalgaon falls under the Bhagalpur Lok Sabha seat, which Janata Dal (United) candidate Ajay Kumar Mandal won in 2024, highlighting the declining influence of Congress and rising dominance of BJP and JD(U) in the region.

In the 2025 assembly election, the main candidates contesting are:

Shubhanand Mukesh (JDU), seeking to regain the seat,
Pravin Singh (INC),
Rajnish Bharti (Rashtriya Janata Dal – RJD),
Anuj Kumar Mandal (Independent),
Manjar Alam (Jan Suraaj Party),
Nirmal Kumar (Akhand Bhartiya Yuva Party).

The contest has grown more fragmented with multiple independents and regional party candidates joining the fray, challenging the traditional BJP and INC dominance.

Local caste dynamics play an important role in electoral outcomes, with the constituency home to a mix of SC voters and other communities.

Kahalgaon assembly seat has transitioned from a Congress bastion to BJP or NDA dominance since 2020. The 2025 election featured a multi-cornered contest with JDU, INC, RJD, and independents vying for influence amid evolving political allegiances and local issues.
