Ravindra Kushawaha is the second-time sitting BJP MP from Salempur, Uttar Pradesh. Kushawaha has been given a ticket for the third time from his constituency to run for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha elections which is set to start from April 19.

A 12th pass, Ravindra Kushawaha declared his profession as agriculture. He belongs to a family with political background as his father was a four-time MP and two-time MLA. He registered success in the 2014 elections with over 2 lakh votes, and in 2019, with over 1 lakh votes by defeating RS Kushwaha of the BSP. Ravindra Kushwaha is the only BJP MP elected from the Salempur constituency since 1952.

During his current tenure, he attended the house proceeding with 87 percent attendance. Kushwaha participated in a total of 52 debates to energy, transportation, dairy development, population control, renewable energy, and health and asked a total of 425 both starred and unstarred questions in the house.

The parliamentary constituency of Salempur is located in the eastern Uttar Pradesh, with five assembly segments. Salempur is an SC category assembly seat. The total rural voters in the constituency is 82.92% and urban voters are 17.09%. In 2019 the voter turnout in Salempur was not so impressive with just 52.38%.

Salempur is categorized as one of the state”s economically backward regions. The population of Salempur Tehsils is estimated to be 6 lakhs, with an almost equal gender distribution, according to the 2011 census.
