BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday revealed that he will not be able to contest the election in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as he has been suffering from cancer for the past six months.

Sharing on X, the BJP leader wrote, “I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the PM. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party.”

Sushil Kumar has been a prominent leader in Bihar and has served as a member of both houses of parliament. In his post shared that his current condition prevents him from actively engaging in the Lok Sabha polls.

The 72-year-old had been the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar during two stints, from 2005 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2020. In addition to his role as Deputy chief minister of Bihar, the BJP leader has also served as the state’s finance minister. Sushil Kumar has served 30 years in politics.

In 2017, Sushil Modi played a major role in the fall of the JDU-RJD Grand Alliance government in Bihar. And then took over the deputy chief minister post.

The BJP has however included the senior leader in its 27-member election manifesto committee which would be headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister Piyush Goyal will be the convenor and co-convenors respectively.
