Congress Appoints YS Sharmila As The Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief

Congress appointed YS Sharmila as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Tuesday. Sharmila, founder President of YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), recently joined the grand old party. She was appointed as the state chief of the party, when Gidugu Rudra Raju resigned from the position on Monday.

“Hon”ble Congress President has appointed Smt. Y.S. Sharmila Reddy as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect,” a Press released signed by the Congress Committee General Secretary KC Venugopal stated.

Besides, Gidugu Rudra Raju has been appointed as the Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committe.

YS Sharmila joined the party in New Delhi in the presence of President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders from Andhra Pradesh on January 4. In the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls, YSRTP’s merger with Congress likely to reflect significant political impacts in the Andhra Pradesh.

At the function, Sharmila said that it was her father”s dream to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India. “It was my father”s dream to see Rahul Gandhi as prime minister of our country and I am very glad that I am going to be a part in making that happen,” she said.

In the recent assembly elections in Telangana, Sharmila’s party did not contest in election to exhibit support to Congress and in the polls, the grand old party emerged victorious in the polls defeating the ruling KCR led-Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party. 49-year-old Sharmila was part of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress till 2021, and then formed her party, YSRTP. Earlier, she said her interest lies in Telangana and as her brother Jagan Mohan Reddy is doing good work in Andhra Pradesh she did not want to advance there.
