The founder President of YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), YS Sharmila joined Indian National Congress (INC) in presence of President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders from Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier sources reported that YSRTP chief likely to join Congress on Thursday morning. She arrived at Delhi on Wednesday night.
The party informed that a “very eminent personality” will join them at 10.30 AM, Thursday at All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters at Delhi.
When reporters asked YS Sharmila, upon her arrival at Delhi airport, whether she is going to join Congress on January 4 she told, “Yes, looks like it”. Then she was asked what role she would play in Congress, Sharmila replied: “we will know tomorrow”.
After holding their party meeting on Tuesday in Hyderabad, YSR Telangana chief said that she will meet the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi before the formal announcement in Delhi.
YS Sharmila is the daughter of former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy and the sister of current Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In the recent assembly elections in Telangana, Sharmila”s party did not contest in election to exhibit support to Congress and in the polls, the grand old party emerged victorious in the polls defeating the ruling KCR led-Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party. 49-year-old Sharmila was part of Jagan Mohan Reddy”s YSR Congress till 2021, and then formed her party, YSRTP. Earlier, she said her interest lies in Telangana and as her brother Jagan Mohan Reddy is doing good work in Andhra Pradesh she did not want to advance there.
YSRTP”s merger with Congress is a major political move which going to influence the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls.
