All India Congress Committee General Secretary K.C Venugopal MP expressed his disappointment in the removal of Volley ball from 37th National Games in Goa. Being a ‘volleyball enthusiast’, he called-out on the government to find an urgent solution and ensure volleyball competitions are held part of the Games.

Venugopal also criticized the management for taking up such a decision through a post he shared on X on Friday. “As a lifelong volleyball enthusiast, my heart goes out to the thousands of volleyball players across India. Extremely shoddy management from Minister ianuragthakur and IndiaSports that there is no volleyball at the #37thNationalGames.” he wrote on X.

He reminded that every year is precious for a sportsperson’s career and thereby missing out such a prestigious opportunity such as National Games is potentially fatal for their career growth.

The Kerala High Court on Friday issued a notice to the State and Union governments and the Volleyball Federation of India on a plea filed by young players against the decision not to include Volley ball in the 37th National Games.

As per the schedule, the Volley ball sport was to be held from November 2 to 6. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided not to include volleyball and beach volleyball in the National games due to the risk of litigation. IOA president PT Usha, stated that it is necessary to avoid derailing efforts to establish a new federation committee. Unable to decide the participating team, IOA decided to exclude the sport.
