Kerala: In a significant statement regarding the ongoing internal discussions within the Congress party about the Chief Ministerial candidate following the Kerala Assembly Polls, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal has urged leaders to maintain restraint and avoid public debates.

Speaking on the matter, Venugopal clarified that the party leadership has no intention of engaging in Chief Ministerial discussions at this juncture. He emphasized that such matters are not meant to be deliberated in the public eye and cautioned that it is best to refrain from entering into public controversies that could potentially harm the party’s image or unity.

According to the senior leader, the primary focus should remain on the electoral process, and the party will wait for the final election results to be declared before addressing leadership roles.

Kozhummal Chattadi Venugopal, a prominent figure in Indian politics, currently serves as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha representing the Alappuzha constituency. A veteran leader of the Indian National Congress, Venugopal has a distinguished career, having previously served as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan (2020-2024) and as a three-time MLA from Alappuzha (1996, 2001, and 2006).

KC Venugopal’s administrative experience includes a stint as a Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Devaswoms in the Kerala Government in 2004, and later as the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Power in the UPA Government. Appointed as AICC General Secretary in 2017, he has been a key organizational strategist, holding critical charges including Karnataka and the overall general secretary position. His recent call for silence on the CM post reflects his role in maintaining organizational discipline as the party navigates the high-stakes political landscape of Kerala.
