V D Satheesan Declared Kerala Chief Minster 10 Days After UDF's Sweeping Victory
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: More than 10 days after the results, the Congress on Thursday, May 14, declared V D Satheesan as Kerala chief minister after prolonged deliberations and discussions. The Kerala Assembly election results were declared on May 4, with the Congress-led United Democratic Alliance emerging victorious by winning a sweeping 102 of the 140 Assembly constituencies.
The Congress High Command committee, Ajay Maken, Mukul Wasnik and Deepa Dasmunshi announced the much-awaited name during a party briefing at Congress Office, 24, Akbar Road, ending 10-day suspense. Announcing the decision, Deepa Dasmunshi said that the decision was taken after extensive consultation and coordination between state leaders and the central leadership.

After the Assembly election result declaration, the race for the chief minister post intensified between three key party leaders and their supporters – V. D. Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala, and K. C. Venugopal – who emerged as the leading contenders.
Following a deadlock over the chief ministerial choice, the Congress high command had delayed its final decision, sparking intense political debate. Following the announcement, supporters gathered outside VD Satheesan’s residence, cheering for their leader.
