Congress fielded sitting Mulana MLA Varun Chaudhary from the Scheduled Caste reserved Ambala constituency. The party had lost the seat during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections when the BJP”s Rattan Lal Kataria secured the victory with a landslide margin of over three lakh. Rattan Lal Kataria retained the seat in 2019, and has been representing to date.

The Congress candidate has been projected as a dedicated young candidate to win back the grand old party”s former stronghold. As he filed his nomination recently, the Mulana MLA raised the slogan that, “”Hath Badlega Halat” (hand will change circumstances) and “Ladenge-Jeetenge” (will fight and win).

The Ambala candidate further said that the Congress fulfils whatever it promises, unlike the BJP which only makes big promises and does not deliver even small. Notably, the Congress has promised an Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Ambala to “generate employment and promote industry” when the Congress forms government. The party has also promised considerable employment generation while criticising the BJP for making the youth leave the country due to the scarcity of jobs.

The 43-year-old Congress politician is the son of the former Indian National Congress chief Phool Chand Mullana. In the 2019 assembly elections, Varun Chaudhary defeated the BJP”s Rajbir Singh and became an MLA from Maulana. The sitting MLA was first fielded in the 2014 assembly elections and was pushed to the third position. Notably, Mulana MLA  earned the reputation of being an award winner representative as he won the “Best Legislator Award in 2021.

A businessman by profession, the law graduate candidate has over six crore assets, and has no criminal cases against him as per his affidavit filed before the Election Commission (EC). However, the Congress candidate, who is a native of Ambala,  appears determined to give a fierce fight against the incumbent BJP MP in the ongoing general elections.
